Staff Grade Psychologist – Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT)
The Staff Grade Psychologist will provide psychological services to children and young people with complex developmental needs and disabilities, and their families, within the Children’s Disability Network Team in Co Meath. The psychologist will collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to assess, support, and deliver evidence-based interventions tailored to each child’s unique needs, aiming to enhance their overall development and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities for a Staff Grade Psychologist
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, including cognitive, behavioural, and emotional evaluations, to identify developmental needs.
- Develop individualized diagnostic reports, summarizing assessment findings, recommendations, and treatment plans.
- Collaborate with team members, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists, to develop holistic assessments.
- Design, implement, and review evidence-based interventions and support plans that align with best practices in child psychology.
- Provide individual and group therapy to children and their families, tailored to specific developmental, behavioural, and emotional needs.
- Engage in parent training and workshops to educate and empower families in supporting their child’s development.
- Work closely with the Children’s Disability Network Team to develop and monitor effective care plans.
- Participate actively in case discussions, MDT meetings, and goal-setting sessions to ensure a coordinated approach to care.
- Act as a resource for team members by providing psychological expertise and guidance as needed.
- Support families in understanding their child’s needs, challenges, and strengths, offering guidance on managing behavior, development, and emotional wellbeing.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to families, as needed, in collaboration with other team members.
- Professional Development and Supervision:
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay updated on best practices in disability and child psychology.
- Attend regular supervision with the Senior Psychologist or Clinical Lead to review cases, discuss interventions, and reflect on practice.
- Engage in training programs and attend relevant workshops, conferences, and seminars.
Key Qualifications and Skills of Staff Grade Psychologist
- Hold a recognized postgraduate qualification in Psychology (Clinical, Educational, or Counselling Psychology).
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally within a disability or similar community setting.
- Experience in conducting assessments, formulating diagnoses, and developing intervention plans for children with developmental disabilities and complex needs is advantageous.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of child developmental psychology, disability, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, and multidisciplinary team members.
- Competence in conducting psychological assessments, data analysis, report writing, and formulating treatment plans.
- Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity to support families from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage caseloads effectively.
