As a Speech and Language Therapist on the Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT) serving Trim, based in Navan, you will provide essential speech, language, and communication support to children and young people with disabilities. Working with a multidisciplinary team, you will assess, plan, and implement individualized interventions to help children achieve their communication goals and improve their quality of life. This role is focused on delivering person-centered care, collaborating closely with families, and supporting the child’s developmental needs within a supportive team environment. I will accept applications from Staff or Senior Grade for this position.
Key Responsibilities of Speech and Language Therapist
- Conduct thorough initial assessments to evaluate speech, language, and communication needs in children with a range of disabilities, including developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, and intellectual disabilities.
- Use standardized assessments and observational techniques to identify strengths, challenges, and specific therapy needs.
- Develop individualized therapy plans focused on enhancing each child’s communication abilities and overall functional skills.
- Provide one-on-one and group therapy sessions, using play-based and evidence-based techniques to engage children and promote progress in their communication goals.
- Monitor and adjust interventions based on the child’s progress, incorporating feedback from families and other team members.
- Work closely with families and caregivers to ensure they are equipped with strategies and tools to support their child’s communication development at home and in daily activities.
- Provide training, resources, and regular updates on the child’s progress, building confidence and understanding for ongoing support outside of sessions.
- Actively participate in MDT meetings and case discussions, working alongside occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers, and medical professionals to provide comprehensive care.
- Coordinate therapy plans with other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each child’s care, with clear goals and outcomes.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of assessments, treatment plans, therapy sessions, and progress notes in accordance with regulatory standards and CDNT policies.
- Ensure confidentiality and data protection for all client information, adhering to best practices in ethical care.
Experience of Speech and Language Therapist
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech and Language Therapy from an accredited program.
- Current registration with CORU or equivalent regulatory body.
- Relevant experience working with children, ideally in a disability or pediatric setting, is preferred but not essential.
- Knowledge of developmental and communication disorders, and an understanding of family-centered and inclusive practices in paediatric SLT.
- Ability to conduct effective assessments and implement interventions that are tailored to the child’s developmental stage and individual needs.
