Staff Grade Speech and Language Therapist
The Speech and Language Therapist willprovide high-quality, person-centered speech and language therapy services to children and young people with disabilities as part of an interdisciplinary Children’s Disability Network Team in Carlow. The role will involve assessing, diagnosing, and implementing intervention programs that support the communication and feeding needs of children with developmental disabilities and/or complex needs, with a focus on family-centered care and integrated therapeutic approaches.
Key Responsibilities of Staff Grade Speech and Language Therapist
- Conduct comprehensive speech, language, and communication assessments for children referred to the service.
- Develop individualized therapy plans in collaboration with children, families, and team members, focusing on functional outcomes that enhance participation and quality of life.
- Provide therapy interventions tailored to the child’s developmental stage and specific needs, incorporating best practices in pediatric speech and language therapy.
- Implement both direct and indirect intervention methods, including individual and group therapy, parent and caregiver coaching, and environmental adaptations.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to holistic, coordinated care for children with disabilities.
- Attend and participate in team meetings, case conferences, and relevant training sessions.
- Collaborate with team members to deliver a transdisciplinary model of care where appropriate, supporting integrated goal-setting and shared intervention planning.
- Engage families as active partners in the therapeutic process, providing information, support, and guidance to enhance their understanding and management of their child’s communication and feeding needs.
- Facilitate parent/caregiver training sessions to build family capacity and confidence in supporting the child’s communication development in daily life.
- Ensure care is culturally sensitive and responsive to each family’s unique context.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and confidential clinical records in line with organizational and legal standards.
- Prepare detailed assessment reports, progress summaries, and therapy plans, ensuring documentation is clear, concise, and accessible to team members and families.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and data collection as required by the network team.
- Participate in professional supervision and peer review as part of ongoing professional growth.
- Attend mandatory training, workshops, and professional development courses to maintain and enhance knowledge and skills.
- Adhere to relevant policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines, ensuring the delivery of high-standard care.
Requirements of the Staff Grade Speech and Language Therapist
- A recognized qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Current registration with CORU as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in working with children and/or individuals with disabilities would be a distinct advantage.
- Knowledge of assessment and intervention strategies for children with developmental, physical, sensory, or intellectual disabilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with children, families, and team members effectively.
