Social Worker
An exciting opportunity has arisen for both a Staff Grade Social Worker and a Senior Social Worker to join the Youth & Adolescent Mental Health Service (YAMHS) team covering Laois and Offaly, based in Portlaoise.
The successful candidates will work as part of a multidisciplinary mental health team providing specialist assessment and intervention to adolescents and young people experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties, and supporting their families within a recovery-focused framework.
This is an excellent opportunity for social workers passionate about youth mental health and therapeutic engagement with young people and families.
Key Responsibilities of the Social Worker:
- Complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments of adolescents referred to YAMHS
- Deliver evidence-based interventions to young people and their families
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case formulation, and care planning
- Undertake risk assessments and contribute to crisis planning where required
- Liaise with external agencies including Tusla, schools, primary care, and community supports
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards
- Contribute to safeguarding and child protection processes as required
Additional Responsibilities (Senior Grade):
- Provide clinical supervision and support to staff grade social workers
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives
- Support team leadership and complex case management
Essential Criteria for the Social Worker:
- Qualification in Social Work recognised by CORU
- Current CORU registration (or eligibility)
- Demonstrated experience working in mental health services
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and families
- Strong knowledge of child protection legislation and policy
- Excellent assessment, report-writing, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Additional Requirement (Senior Grade):
- Minimum of three years post-qualification experience, with relevant experience in mental health and child/adolescent services
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience within CAMHS or youth mental health services
- Postgraduate training relevant to child, adolescent, or mental health practice
- Experience in therapeutic modalities relevant to young people (e.g. CBT-informed practice, systemic/family work)
