Job Title: Senior Speech & Language Therapist Specialization: Rehabilitation / Clinical Role
Medforce in partnership with a rehabilitation unit in Co. Tipperary are seeking a Senior Speech & Language Therapist specializing in the rehabilitation of older individuals, you will play a crucial role in assessing, diagnosing, and providing professional treatment and intervention programs to enhance the communication and related abilities of our service users. You will be responsible for ensuring that our service users receive the highest quality care in line with local policies, guidelines, and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnose communication, and swallowing disorders, and formulate individualized treatment plans based on professional standards.

Treatment/Intervention: Implement evidence-based treatment and intervention programs, ensuring the well-being and progress of service users.

Communication: Effectively communicate assessment results, treatment recommendations, and progress updates to service users and their relevant stakeholders.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and thorough records of assessments, diagnoses, treatment/intervention plans, clinical notes, contacts, and summaries, adhering to departmental and professional standards.

Collaboration: Collaborate with service users, their families, caregivers, and fellow staff members in goal setting and planning for treatment/intervention.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Foster close working relationships with colleagues and other professionals, contributing to a holistic approach to maximize service users’ potential.

Education and Support: Provide information and support to service users and their stakeholders regarding communication, feeding, eating, drinking, and swallowing disorders.

Participation: Attend weekly Multi-disciplinary Consultant Rounds and engage in family meetings as necessary to ensure effective care coordination.

Teamwork: Actively participate in interdisciplinary teams, working closely with service users and stakeholders to deliver integrated care packages.

Professional Development: Uphold and continuously enhance professional standards of practice, staying updated with the latest developments in the field.

Policy and Procedure: Collaborate with the Rehabilitation Interdisciplinary Team to develop and implement procedures, policies, and guidelines, adhering to established standards and protocols.

Confidentiality and Ethics: Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, ethical conduct, and compliance with relevant legislation.

Professional Support: Seek guidance and assistance from the Primary Care Speech and Language Therapy Manager when handling cases or issues that require expertise beyond your professional competence.

Compliance: Operate within the scope of Speech & Language Therapy practice as defined by the Irish Association of Speech & Language Therapists.

Health Promotion: Actively participate in and contribute to activities that promote health and well-being within the rehabilitation unit.
Qualifications:
- Hold a valid Speech and Language Therapy qualification and CORU registration.
- Demonstrated experience in working with older adults, particularly in rehabilitation settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability.
- Compliance with all professional standards, ethics, and legislation.
Work Environment:
The Rehabilitation Unit in Cashel, primarily serves individuals over 65 years of age recovering from surgery and medical illnesses. This is a short-stay unit with 20 patients, focused on the rehabilitation of older individuals.
Additional Information:
Senior Speech & Language Therapists are sought for their ability to work independently while reporting to a larger, multidisciplinary team. Weekly consultant rounds are held every Tuesday to review each patient’s care plan and ensure safe discharges to their homes.
Hours:
Contracted hours of work are open to negotiation, with the expectation of providing 2-3 days of coverage per week.
