Senior Speech & Language Therapist
The Senior Speech & Language Therapist (Paediatrics) will deliver a high-quality, child- and family-centred speech and language therapy service to children and young people. The role involves assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children with a range of communication, speech, language, feeding, and swallowing needs, as well as contributing to service development, supervision, and multidisciplinary working. This role is based in East Donegal.
Responsibilities of Senior Speech and Language Therapist
- Provide specialist speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children with a variety of speech, language, communication, and feeding needs
- Develop, implement, and review individualised, evidence-based therapy plans in collaboration with children, families, and carers
- Work with children presenting with needs including developmental language disorder, speech sound disorder, autism, social communication difficulties, and complex needs
- Provide assessment and intervention in relation to feeding, eating, drinking, and swallowing where appropriate
- Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality clinical records in line with professional, legal, and organisational standards
- Work in partnership with parents, carers, and families to support goal-setting and therapy carryover
- Provide education, guidance, and training to families and caregivers
- Empower families to support children’s communication development in everyday environments
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers, and medical professionals
- Liaise with early years settings, schools, and other community services
- Participate in case conferences, MDT meetings, and interagency reviews
- Support transitions between services (e.g. early intervention to school-age services)
- Act as a senior clinical resource within the Speech & Language Therapy team
- Provide supervision, mentoring, and support to junior SLTs, students, and assistants as required
- Contribute to service planning, development, and quality improvement initiatives
- Participate in audit, research, and the promotion of evidence-based practice
Requirements of Senior Speech and Language
- Degree in Speech & Language Therapy or equivalent recognised qualification
- Registration with CORU as a Speech & Language Therapist
- Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, including significant experience in paediatric speech and language therapy would be desirable.
- Experience working with children with complex communication needs and their families
