We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our team in Leitrim. The Senior SLT will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating children and adults with a range of communication, language, and swallowing disorders. This role involves providing leadership and clinical expertise, supervising junior SLTs, and contributing to service development. The ideal candidate will be passionate about delivering person-centred care, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, and advancing the overall quality of speech and language services in the region.
Key Responsibilities of Senior Speech and Language Therapist
- Conduct comprehensive speech, language, communication, and swallowing assessments for clients across the lifespan (paediatric and adult).
- Use evidence-based assessment tools to diagnose speech and language disorders, including developmental delays, aphasia, dysarthria, and other related conditions.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals.
- Provide direct therapeutic interventions to improve communication, speech clarity, language comprehension, and social communication skills.
- Deliver dysphagia management services, including assessments and development of care plans for clients with swallowing difficulties.
- Collaborate closely with families, caregivers, and educators to provide advice and strategies that support the client’s communication development and general well-being.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and social workers) to ensure a coordinated approach to care.
- Attend case conferences, team meetings, and reviews, contributing to the holistic care of the client.
- Liaise with external services, such as schools, GPs, and community health professionals, to ensure integrated care pathways.
- Provide leadership and guidance to junior SLTs, students, and support staff, ensuring best practices and clinical standards are maintained.
- Offer clinical supervision and training to enhance the skills and knowledge of junior team members.
- Engage in reflective practice, peer review, and case discussions to promote professional development within the team.
- Contribute to the strategic development of speech and language services in Leitrim.
- Participate in the design and delivery of service improvement projects, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based practices are implemented.
- Monitor and evaluate service delivery outcomes, implementing changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, including assessments, treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries.
- Prepare reports for case conferences, multidisciplinary meetings, and statutory reviews, as required.
- Stay informed of advancements in the field of speech and language therapy by engaging in continuous professional development (CPD) activities.
- Participate in relevant training, workshops, and conferences to keep skills and knowledge up to date.
- Ensure compliance with CORU regulations and other relevant professional standards.
Key Requirements of Speech and Language therapist
Qualifications:
- BSc/MSc in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent recognized by the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (IASLT)).
- CORU registration (Health and Social Care Professionals Council).
- A minimum of 3-5 years post-qualification experience as a Speech and Language Therapist, with a strong background in paediatrics, adult communication disorders, and/or dysphagia.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively.
- Previous experience in a senior or supervisory role is desirable but not essential.
