Senior Social Worker
The Senior Social Worker is a key member of the Children’s Disability Network Team, providing specialist social work services to children with disabilities and their families. The role involves leadership within the social work function, supporting family-centred practice, safeguarding, advocacy, and coordination of services to support children to achieve the best possible outcomes. This is a role based in Letterkenny.
Responsibilities of Senior Social Worker
- Provide specialist social work assessment and intervention for children with disabilities and complex needs.
- Support families in understanding and navigating disability services, supports, and entitlements.
- Complete psychosocial assessments relating to family functioning, supports, and environmental needs.
- Participate in family-centred service planning with children, parents, and carers.
- Provide support during key life transitions (early years, school entry, adolescence).
- Address safeguarding concerns in line with child protection procedures.
Multidisciplinary Team Working
- Work collaboratively with:
- Occupational Therapists
- Speech & Language Therapists
- Physiotherapists
- Psychologists
- Team Coordinators
- Contribute to interdisciplinary assessments and goal setting.
- Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and joint interventions.
- Support integrated service delivery aligned with the Progressing Disability Services (PDS) model.
Leadership & Supervision
- Provide professional supervision and guidance to Social Workers within the CDNT where applicable.
- Support development of best practice in disability and family support.
- Assist the Team Manager with service planning and prioritisation of referrals.
- Promote reflective practice within the team.
Family Support & Advocacy
- Advocate for children’s rights and inclusion within education, community, and healthcare services.
- Support families accessing:
- Disability supports
- Respite services
- Financial supports and entitlements
- Community resources
- Provide emotional and practical support to families adjusting to diagnosis or changing needs.
Governance, Policy & Quality
- Maintain high standards of documentation and case management.
- Ensure compliance with:
- Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children
- Disability and safeguarding policies
- CORU professional standards
- Contribute to service development initiatives within the CDNT.
Requirements of Senior Social Worker
- A recognised Social Work qualification (CQSW, NQSW, or equivalent).
- Registration with CORU as a Social Worker.
- Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience in social work practice.
