Senior Podiatrist (Community)
Med force Recruitment are recruiting a forward thinking, Senior Grade Community Podiatrist’s across Wexford. We have a number of positions in networks across Wexford including Wexford town, Gorey and in Chronic Disease in Enniscorthy Primary Care.

Contract This is a Fulltime specified purpose role to begin, however a panel will be created from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration will be filled. The working week is Mon-Friday, 35 hour working week. Salary range €58,599- €69,000 per annum.

You will provide leadership for Podiatrists as part of the community Interdisciplinary Team, ensuring the Podiatry service is delivered to quality standards, within budget and to agreed timescales, while complying with current legislation, statutory regulation, and professional codes of practice.
The Purpose of the role
- The focus is on providing an end-to-end pathway that will reduce admissions to acute hospitals by providing access to diagnostics and specialist services in the ambulatory care hubs in a timely manner. For patients who require hospital admission, the emphasis is on minimising the hospital length of stay, with the provision of post-discharge follow up and support for people in the community and in their own homes, where required. A shared local governance structure across the local acute hospitals and the associated CHO will ensure the development of a fully integrated service and end-to-end pathway for individuals living with chronic disease.
- Structural reform of healthcare delivery within the community with Community Health Networks (CHNs) becoming the basic building blocks for the organisation, management and delivery of community services across the country;
- Creating Specialist Ambulatory Care Hubs within the community to support primary care management of chronic disease and older people with complex needs; and,
- Scaling Integrated Care for Older People and Chronic Disease through the recruitment of specialist integrated care teams including Frailty at the Front Door Teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Demonstrates a high level of clinical knowledge / can clearly and methodically assess and analyse the problem / situation.
- Awareness of the signs/ symptoms of conditions for which podiatry is / is not indicated
- Have appropriate knowledge of the presenting condition of the patient/ client in this situation
- Excellent knowledge of the various theoretical models and approaches that apply in current podiatry practice, such as the following;
- A knowledge of and ability to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the vascular and neurological status of the lower limb including use of Doppler waveform analysis, Ankle Brachial Pressure Index calculation, and tests for sensory and motor dysfunction.
- Knowledge of prescription and fitting of orthotic devices, casting techniques and provision of off-loading devices.
- Knowledge of tissue viability and experience in treating chronic diabetes food ulceration.
- Knowledge of advanced vascular and neurological investigation
- A high standard of local wound care including sharp debridement skills and knowledge of standard and advanced topical therapies (e.g. wound dressings, Versajet, negative pressure wound therapy).
- The ability to detect signs of infection, determine level of infection, referral for imaging investigations and antibiotic therapy if necessary, and ability to effectively carry out investigations such as wound swabs and biopsies.
- A sound knowledge of antibiotic therapies for diabetes foot infections and the ability to interpret microbiological and radiology reports.
- Knowledge of dermatological conditions associated with diabetes.
- Demonstrates knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group and an ability to apply knowledge to best practice
- Demonstrates the knowledge, abilities and clinical skills required to provide safe, efficient and effective service in the area of practice
- Demonstrates knowledge of health promotion and disease management.
Professional Qualifications, Experience etc.
- Hold the BSC (Hons) in Podiatry of the National University of Ireland, Galway
- Hold a qualification equivalent to (a) Registration with the Podiatrists Registration Board in CORU
- Hold a full valid driving license and access to a car to use
- Have a minimum of three years satisfactory post qualification clinical experience.
- Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to discharge the functions of the role.
- Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience working in specific clinics such as Diabetes, Rheumatology, Wound Care, Nail Surgery, Neuropathy, vascular as relevant to the role
- Experience and knowledge of diabetic foot pathologies. Experience and knowledge of lower limb musculoskeletal assessment and gait analysis
- Knowledge of and experience in prescription and fitting of orthotic devices, and provision of off-loading devices.
- Knowledge of tissue viability and experience in treating chronic diabetes foot ulceration.
- Demonstrate evidence-based practice and up to date clinical skills.
- Experience of complex assessment of patient
- Evidence of management and leadership in complex & changing organisation circumstances.
- Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
- Have excellent communication skills and an appreciation of the value of multi-disciplinary team approach to patient care and service delivery.
- Adequate clinical knowledge of current nutrition and dietetic practice and its application to general mental health and wellbeing.
- Knowledge of relevant national guidelines and standards
- Ability to ensure high professional standards in service delivery – evidence based and best practice with a quality, client and strategic focus.
- Demonstrate evidence of computer skills including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and email and PowerPoint systems, as relevant to the role.
