Senior Physiotherapist – Respiratory care and Acute Rehabilitation

One of our Clients, a 117 bedded Acute Hospital in South Dublin is recruiting a Senior Physiotherapist in Respiratory care and Acute Medical Rehabilitation.
The person appointed to this post will provide senior level decision making ensuring Best Practice Physiotherapy for all Patients with Respiratory and Acute medical problems.
- You will provide evidence-based physiotherapy assessment, treatment and discharge planning to patients in the Hospital – MOU, wards and Respiratory OPD as appropriate for patients with conditions including Respiratory and Cardiovascular conditions and those medically unwell and Frail, but also Falls, Orthopaedics, Dementia, and Parkinsons.
- Be responsible for training all staff and senior grade Physiotherapists to ensure they have the necessary respiratory competencies to participate in the weekend on Call rota and drafting the On-Call roster.
- Be responsible for ensuring that all patients who require home Oxygen on discharge are appropriately assessed and provide guidance for all MDT staff.
- Assist the other Senior Physiotherapists (senior in Medical Rehabilitation, Senior in Older Person and Senior in Frailty Intervention Team) in running the inpatient service including the Physiotherapist Assistant.
- To work in conjunction with other team members in co-ordinating and developing the service to meet the needs of the population it serves in line with the objectives of the organisation.
- Be responsible for training all staff and senior grade Physiotherapists to ensure they have the necessary respiratory competencies to participate in the weekend on Call rota.

Salary is dependent on experience, the range is between €59,478-€70,003 per annum.
The Senior Physiotherapist will:
Professional / Clinical
- Communicate and work in co-operation with the staff in providing an integrated quality physiotherapy service, taking the lead role as required.
- Be a lead clinician in assigned, allocated clinical areas of responsibility and carry a clinical caseload appropriate to the post.
- Take a lead role in service set up and development as relevant to the role.
- Be responsible for client assessment, development and implementation of individualised treatment plans that are client centred and in line with best practice.
- Be responsible for goal setting in partnership with client, family and other team members as appropriate.
- S/He may be required to work as a key worker for particular cases.
- Be responsible for standards of professional and clinical practice of self and staff appointed to clinical / designated area(s) in line with the Scope of Practice of Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists and national, regional and local Health Service Executive (HSE) guidelines, policies, protocols and legislation.
- Be a clinical physiotherapy resource in Respiratory Care for SCH staff.
- Plan and manage resources efficiently in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Communicate effectively with and provide instruction, guidance and support to, staff clients, family, carers etc .
- Document client records in accordance with professional standards and SCH policies
- Apply health promotion as an ethos across the clinical area to promote health and wellbeing
- Participate and be a lead clinician as appropriate in review meetings, case conferences etc.
- Develop and promote professional standards of practice.
- Work within own scope of professional competence in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governance
- Seek advice of relevant personnel when appropriate / as required.
- Operate within the scope of practice of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists and CORU
Candidates for appointment must:
- Hold a Physiotherapy qualification recognised by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU.
- Be registered on the Physiotherapist Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU.
- Candidates must have three years fulltime (or an aggregate of three years fulltime) post qualification clinical experience.
- Have evidence of sufficient recent clinical experience in respiratory Care and ideally including weekend respiratory or on call respiratory work
- Demonstrate evidence of both formal and informal CPD in the area of Respiratory Care
- Have sufficient respiratory skills to be able to train Physiotherapists in SCH to partake in the weekend respiratory/on-call service.
- Demonstrate the ability to plan and deliver care in an effective and resourceful manner within a model of person-centred care.
- Demonstrate an ability to manage and develop self and others in a busy working environment.
- Demonstrate a commitment to assuring high standards and strive for a user centred service in line with best practice and professional standards.
- Display effective communication and strong interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain relationships and be an effective and leading multi-disciplinary team member
- Demonstrate the ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
