Senior Physiotherapist – Primary Care
The Senior Physiotherapist – Primary Care will provide high-quality, patient-centred physiotherapy services to adults and older persons within a primary care setting. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary Primary Care Team, delivering assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation services, with a strong emphasis on self-management, health promotion, and early intervention. This position is based in East Clare community.
Responsibilities of Senior Physiotherapist
- Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate physiotherapy interventions for patients referred to Primary Care services.
- Manage a complex caseload, including patients with musculoskeletal, neurological, respiratory, and age-related conditions, as appropriate to Primary Care.
- Deliver evidence-based, outcome-focused physiotherapy interventions in line with best practice and HSE policies.
- Promote self-management, physical activity, and preventative care through patient education and group programmes where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation in accordance with HSE standards.
- Provide clinical supervision, support, and mentoring to staff-grade physiotherapists, assistants, and students.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of clinical guidelines, pathways, and protocols within Primary Care.
- Act as a professional role model, promoting high standards of clinical practice and ethical conduct.
- Participate in service planning, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support the integration of physiotherapy services within the wider Primary Care and Community Healthcare Network.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and integrated care planning.
- Participate in patient, carer, and community education initiatives.
- Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) and ensure maintenance of CORU registration requirements.
Requirements of Senior Physiotherapist
- Be registered as a Physiotherapist with CORU.
- Have at least three years’ post-qualification clinical experience, including relevant experience in a Primary Care or community setting.
- Demonstrate experience in managing a complex clinical caseload.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
