Senior Occupational Therapist
The Senior Occupational Therapist will provide specialist Occupational Therapy services to older adults with Psychiatry of Later Life needs within the Cluain Lair Unit, Mullingar.
This post has a particular emphasis on seating and specialist equipment assessment, reflecting the complex physical and functional needs of an ageing mental health population. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary mental health team, delivering high-quality OT assessment and intervention while supporting mental health–focused occupational therapy practice within the service.
Responsibilities of Senior Occupational Therapist
- Provide comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions for older adults with mental health needs.
- Lead on seating and specialist equipment assessments, including:
- Seating assessment, prescription, review and adjustment
- Pressure care considerations
- Postural management in collaboration with relevant disciplines
- Complete functional assessments to inform care planning, discharge planning and ongoing intervention.
- Plan and deliver individual and group-based OT interventions appropriate to Psychiatry of Later Life.
- Contribute to mental health OT assessments, with support from senior mental health OT colleagues where required.
- Work collaboratively as part of the Multidisciplinary Mental Health Team, including nursing, medical, psychology and allied health colleagues.
- Liaise with families, carers and external agencies as appropriate.
- Provide specialist OT input and advice regarding seating and equipment to the wider team.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards.
- Participate in service development, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
- Engage in continuing professional development and supervision.
- Support and contribute to student education or staff support as required.
Requirements of Senior Occupational Therapist
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- Registration with CORU
- Significant post-qualification experience as an Occupational Therapist
- Demonstrable experience in seating assessment and specialist equipment provision
- Experience completing functional assessments with older adults
