Senior Occupational Therapist – CDNT
The Senior Occupational Therapist (Paediatrics) will provide a high-quality, child-centred occupational therapy service to children and young people, supporting their participation in daily activities at home, school, and in the community. The post-holder will take a senior clinical role, contributing to service development, supervision, and multidisciplinary collaboration. This role will be based in the East Donegal area.
Responsibilities of Senior Occupational Therapist
- Provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, intervention, and review for children with a range of developmental, physical, sensory, and neurodiverse needs
- Develop and implement individualised, evidence-based intervention plans in partnership with children, families, and carers
- Support children’s functional participation in areas such as self-care, play, fine motor skills, sensory regulation, and school readiness
- Prescribe, recommend, and review appropriate equipment, aids, and adaptations
- Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers, and families to support goal-setting and carryover of therapy programmes
- Provide education, advice, and training to families and caregivers
- Advocate for the needs of children within healthcare, educational, and community settings
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, liaising with physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, social workers, teachers, and other professionals
- Contribute to case conferences, reviews, and interagency planning meetings
- Support smooth transitions between services (e.g. early intervention to school-age services)
- Act as a senior clinical resource within the paediatric OT team
- Support, supervise, and mentor junior staff, students, and therapy assistants as required
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and policy implementation
- Participate in audit, research, and evidence-based practice initiatives
Requirements of Senior Occupational Therapist
- Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent recognised qualification
- Registration with CORU as an Occupational Therapist
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, including substantial experience in paediatric occupational therapy would be very beneficial
