Senior Occupational Therapist – (CDNT)
The Senior Occupational Therapist will be a key member of the multidisciplinary Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT), responsible for providing specialised OT assessments and interventions to children and young people (0-18 years) with complex disabilities. This position is based in County Mayo and offers an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with children, their families, and other professionals to enhance the child’s development and participation in everyday activities.
Key Responsibilities of Senior Occupational Therapist – CDNT
- Provide comprehensive OT assessments, interventions, and treatment plans for children with physical, sensory, and developmental disabilities.
- Design and implement individualised therapeutic programs that promote participation in daily activities, fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, and overall well-being.
- Use evidence-based approaches to assess and treat complex needs, including autism, developmental delays, physical disabilities, and sensory processing disorders.
- Engage children and their families in the therapy process, ensuring that goals are relevant and tailored to the needs of the child and family.
- Monitor and evaluate progress, adapting interventions to maximise outcomes.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (including physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, social workers, etc.) to ensure a coordinated approach to care.
- Participate in case discussions and team meetings, contributing to shared decision-making processes.
- Work closely with the child’s family, caregivers, and educational staff to implement therapy plans within the home and school environments.
- Provide advice and training to family members, schools, and other relevant organisations on strategies to support the child’s development.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of the CDNT’s services in Mayo, identifying areas for improvement and implementing quality initiatives.
- Participate in the collection and analysis of outcome data to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy interventions.
- Support the CDNT in maintaining high standards of care, in line with national policies and standards for disability services.
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior Occupational Therapists, students, and support staff as needed.
- Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) activities, keeping abreast of new research, clinical practices, and service developments in paediatric OT.
- Contribute to the training and development of team members through workshops, in-service training, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional, ethical, and legal standards.
- Ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures, including child safeguarding, GDPR, and health and safety standards.
- Manage a caseload efficiently, prioritising care based on clinical need and service capacity.
Requirements of Senior Occupational Therapist (CDNT)
- Degree in Occupational Therapy recognised by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
- Must be registered as an Occupational Therapist with CORU.
- A minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience, with at least 1 year in a paediatric or disability setting.
- Strong clinical knowledge in paediatric occupational therapy.
- Experience working with children with complex disabilities, including developmental delay, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and professionals.
