Senior Occupational Therapist – Intellectual Disability Services (Longford/Westmeath)
Our client is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Intellectual Disability Services in Longford/Westmeath. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced OT to provide specialist interventions, supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities to enhance their functional abilities, independence, and quality of life.
Role Overview
As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering person-centred occupational therapy services. You will assess service users’ functional needs, develop tailored interventions, and provide guidance on assistive technology, sensory integration, and environmental modifications.
Key Responsibilities of the Senior Occupational Therapist:
- Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments and develop individualised intervention plans.
- Support individuals in enhancing daily living skills, mobility, and independence.
- Provide specialist advice on assistive technology, seating, sensory strategies, and environmental adaptations.
- Collaborate with families, caregivers, and a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic care.
- Lead and participate in service development initiatives to improve therapy services.
- Supervise and mentor junior OTs, therapy assistants, and students.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with HSE policies and professional standards.
Essential Criteria for the Senior Occupational Therapist:
- Degree in Occupational Therapy and CORU registration.
- Three years post-qualification experience, including experience in intellectual disability services.
- Strong knowledge of sensory integration, assistive technology, and functional rehabilitation.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary and community-based settings.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and advocacy skills.
