Senior Occupational Therapist – Community Nursing Unit / Older Persons Service
Our client is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Therapy Services in Longford/Westmeath, working within a Community Nursing Unit / Older Persons Service. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced OT to provide specialist care to older adults in a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.
Role Overview
As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will assess, develop, and implement rehabilitation and functional support plans for older adults in a community-based setting. You will play a vital role in improving the quality of life for residents by promoting independence and supporting their daily living skills.
Key Responsibilities for the Senior Occupational Therapist
- Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments and develop individualised intervention plans.
- Support older adults in maximising their independence through rehabilitation and functional interventions.
- Provide specialist advice on assistive technologies, home adaptations, and mobility aids.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, physiotherapists, and social workers.
- Lead and participate in service development initiatives to enhance the quality of care for older adults.
- Supervise and mentor junior OTs and OT assistants as required.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with HSE policies and best practices.
Essential Criteria of the Senior Occupational Therapist
- Degree in Occupational Therapy and CORU registration.
- Three years of post-qualification experience, including work with older adults.
- Experience in rehabilitation, falls prevention, and functional assessments.
- Strong understanding of dementia care, frailty, and age-related conditions.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a multidisciplinary team.
