Psychologist
Psychologist – CDNT
The Psychologist will provide psychological assessments, interventions, and therapeutic support to children and young people with complex developmental disabilities, including intellectual, physical, sensory, and learning disabilities, within a multidisciplinary team. This role is based in Tullamore and will be open to Staff and Senior Psychologists.
Key Responsibilities of Psychologist:
- Conduct psychological assessments, using evidence-based methods, to identify cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs of children with disabilities.
- Develop individualized treatment and intervention plans based on assessment findings, in collaboration with the child, family, and other members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Provide therapeutic interventions, including behavioral management, cognitive-behavioral therapy, play therapy, and family support, tailored to the needs of children and young people.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
- Contribute to service delivery by offering clinical recommendations to support children’s development, education, and social inclusion.
- Engage in direct therapeutic work with individuals, groups, and families to foster psychological well-being and enhance coping strategies for managing developmental and intellectual disabilities.
- Work closely with other professionals in the CDNT (e.g., occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, social workers, etc.) to deliver holistic, child-centered care.
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and contribute to the decision-making process regarding the care of children and young people within the network.
- Liaise with external agencies, schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations to ensure integrated service provision and continuity of care.
- Provide education, training, and advice to families and caregivers on the psychological aspects of their child’s condition.
- Offer psychological support to help families understand and cope with the emotional challenges of raising a child with a disability.
- Advocate for the child’s needs in various settings, including school and community services, to promote optimal developmental outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes, assessments, treatment plans, and reports in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations in handling client records and information.
- Prepare reports for referral purposes, progress reviews, and external stakeholders where appropriate.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of psychological services within the CDNT.
- Engage in service evaluation and research initiatives to ensure the use of best practices and evidence-based interventions.
- Assist in the training and development of assistant psychologists, students, or other staff as needed.
Requirement for a Psychologist
- A recognised university degree or diploma (QQ1 level 8 equivalent) obtained with 1st or 2nd class honours in which Psychology was taken as a major subject.
- A recognised post-graduate professional qualification in clinical, counselling or educational psychology or an equivalent qualification validated by the Department of Health. We would welcome applications from 2023 doctorial graduates.
- Applicants who qualified outside the Republic of Ireland must already have their qualifications validated by the Department of Health and Children and the Psychological Society of Ireland.
- Possess a full clean drivers license.
