My client a CDNT in Trim are seeking a compassionate and skilled Play Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will provide therapeutic interventions to children and teenagers with disabilities, including physical, sensory, intellectual, and developmental needs. The role involves creating a safe and supportive environment where children can explore emotions, overcome challenges, and develop coping skills through play.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized play therapy sessions tailored to the specific needs of children and teenagers with disabilities.
- Use play-based therapeutic techniques to address emotional, social, and psychological challenges.
- Work collaboratively with families, caregivers, and other professionals (e.g., psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists) to develop and implement therapy plans.
- Conduct assessments to identify the therapeutic needs of each child and establish measurable goals.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of sessions, progress, and outcomes.
- Support children in developing emotional resilience, self-expression, and social skills.
- Provide guidance to parents and caregivers on incorporating therapeutic play at home.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and care planning processes.
- Promote a culture of inclusion and empowerment for children with disabilities.
Essential Qualifications
- A recognized qualification in Play Therapy would be benefical
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children and teenagers, preferably within a healthcare or educational setting.
- Demonstrated experience working with children and teenagers with disabilities
- Strong understanding of the emotional and developmental needs of children and teenagers.
- Proficiency in a range of therapeutic play techniques, including creative arts, sand play, and storytelling.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage children, families, and multidisciplinary teams effectively.
- Ability to develop and maintain trusting relationships with children from diverse backgrounds.
- A collaborative approach to working within a multidisciplinary team.
- High level of empathy, patience, and adaptability.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
