Person in Charge (PIC) – Children’s Services
Location: Carlow
We are currently recruiting experienced and dedicated Persons in Charge (PICs) to join our team, supporting temporary emergency residential placements for children and young people.
This is an exciting opportunity for experienced leaders who are passionate about delivering high-quality, child-centred care in a dynamic and rewarding environment.
About the Role
As a Person in Charge, you will provide operational leadership and management of temporary emergency residential services, ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and positive outcomes of children and young people in care.
Working on an agency basis, you will lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver high standards of care while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and organisational policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective leadership and day-to-day management of residential services.
- Ensure the delivery of safe, therapeutic, and child-centred care.
- Lead, support, and supervise residential care staff.
- Maintain compliance with HIQA standards, Children’s First guidance, and all relevant legislation.
- Promote positive outcomes for children and young people through high-quality care planning and service delivery.
- Manage safeguarding, risk management, and incident reporting processes.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, social workers, and external professionals.
- Ensure accurate record keeping and reporting.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and accountable team culture.
Qualifications & Experience
- Level 7 or Level 8 qualification in Social Care (or a related discipline) is required.
- Experience working in residential, disability, or community services is desirable.
- Previous leadership or management experience within children’s residential services is highly desirable.
- CORU registration (or an application in progress) is required.
- Strong knowledge of HIQA Standards, Children’s First, and relevant Irish legislation is an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively to challenging situations.
- A compassionate, team-focused approach to care.
- Must hold a full, clean Irish driving licence and have access to a car.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland.
