Occupational Therapist – YAMHS
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our client in a multidisciplinary Young Adult Mental Health Service (YAMHS). The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering person-centred occupational therapy to young adults experiencing a range of mental health challenges, supporting their recovery, wellbeing, and transition into adulthood. This role will cover parts of Laois and Offaly and also will be open to Staff or Senior grade.
Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist – YAMHS
- Deliver comprehensive occupational therapy assessments using standardised and non-standardised tools.
- Design and implement individualised treatment plans to support recovery and promote engagement in meaningful occupations.
- Provide interventions that enhance life skills, emotional regulation, social inclusion, and occupational performance.
- Facilitate therapeutic groups and activities within the service or community settings.
- Use trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate approaches in working with young adults.
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, peer support workers, and social workers.
- Liaise with external agencies, including schools, colleges, social care, and housing providers to promote continuity of care.
- Support transitions from CAMHS to adult mental health services and other relevant pathways.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical records in line with legal, ethical, and service standards.
- Contribute to service development, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Engage in regular clinical supervision, CPD, and training opportunities to maintain and advance professional skills.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist – YAMHS
- Degree or in Occupational Therapy.
- Current registration with CORU as an Occupational Therapist.
- Experience working in mental health settings (CAMHS, adult MH, or transitional age services).
- Knowledge of relevant occupational therapy models and mental health interventions.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working with young adults with complex needs.
- Knowledge of neurodiversity, trauma-informed care, and risk assessment frameworks.
- Experience facilitating group-based interventions.
- Skills in service development, research, or quality improvement.
