Occupational Therapist – Rehab
The Staff Grade Occupational Therapist will provide high-quality, client-centred occupational therapy services to patients within a 15-bed rehabilitation unit in Waterford City. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support patients in maximising independence, functional ability, and quality of life following illness, injury, or surgery.
The role will be supported and supervised by a Senior Occupational Therapist and will contribute to service development and quality improvement within the unit.
Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist Rehab
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate occupational therapy interventions for patients in the rehabilitation unit.
- Complete comprehensive functional assessments including mobility, ADLs, cognition, perception, upper limb function, and home environment needs.
- Develop individualised, goal-oriented treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the MDT.
- Facilitate rehabilitation programmes focused on maximising independence in personal and domestic activities of daily living.
- Complete home assessments (including access visits where appropriate) and recommend equipment and environmental modifications.
- Prescribe and arrange appropriate assistive devices and adaptive equipment.
- Provide education and training to patients, families, and carers.
- Participate in discharge planning to ensure safe and timely transitions to home or onward care.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation in line with CORU and organisational standards.
- Escalate complex cases appropriately to the Senior Occupational Therapist.
- Communicate effectively regarding patient progress and rehabilitation goals.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist – Rehab
- BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy or equivalent recognised qualification.
- Registration with CORU as an Occupational Therapist (or eligibility for registration).
- Clinical experience (including student placements) in rehabilitation, care of the older person, neurology, or orthopaedics.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload effectively.
