Occupational Therapist – Community Mental Health
The Occupational Therapist will work as part of a multidisciplinary Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) to support individuals experiencing mental health difficulties in achieving optimal independence, recovery, and participation in meaningful daily activities. The role focuses on recovery-oriented practice within the community setting across County Louth.
Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist – Community Mental Health
- Provide occupational therapy assessment and intervention for adults experiencing mental health difficulties.
- Assess functional ability, daily living skills, cognitive functioning, and environmental factors.
- Develop and implement individualised recovery-focused care plans in collaboration with service users and the multidisciplinary team.
- Deliver interventions such as:
- Activities of daily living (ADL) rehabilitation
- Vocational and educational support
- Social inclusion and community participation
- Anxiety and stress management strategies
- Cognitive and functional rehabilitation
- Facilitate group programmes promoting recovery, wellbeing, and skill development.
- Support service users transitioning between hospital and community services where relevant.
- Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other allied health professionals.
- Participate in case conferences, care planning meetings, and clinical reviews.
- Contribute to risk assessment and management planning.
- Conduct home visits and community-based interventions across County Louth.
- Liaise with:
- Primary care services
- Housing services
- Employment and education supports
- Voluntary and community organisations
- Support service users to access community resources and supports.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with organisational policies.
- Adhere to professional standards, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in clinical audit, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist – Community Mental Health
- BSc (Hons) or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with CORU.
- Experience working in mental health services (placement or post-qualification).
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented practice and community-based mental health care.
- Ability to work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team.
