Occupational Therapist – Acute Inpatient Adult Mental Health
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Occupational Therapist to join our Acute Inpatient Adult Mental Health team in Mullingar. This role is integral to supporting adults in an inpatient setting who are experiencing acute mental health challenges. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence-based interventions to aid in stabilizing mental health symptoms, restoring daily functioning, and supporting a safe transition back to the community. The role includes one-on-one and group therapy focused on recovery, wellness, and skill-building.
Key Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist – Adult inpatient
- Conduct detailed assessments to understand clients’ strengths, functional abilities, and specific needs in areas like daily living skills, emotional regulation, and social engagement.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on therapeutic goals, clinical needs, and patient-centered care principles.
- Collaborate with clients and the multidisciplinary team to regularly review and adapt care plans, ensuring goals align with recovery progress.
- Deliver individual and group-based occupational therapy interventions focused on life skills, emotional resilience, social skills, and community reintegration.
- Utilize evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioral techniques, sensory modulation, mindfulness, and relaxation skills to support emotional regulation.
- Guide patients in practicing daily living skills, planning for community re-entry, and developing strategies for managing stress, anxiety, and other symptoms.
- Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and other allied health professionals to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
- Participate actively in case reviews, team meetings, and patient care discussions to contribute to the development of individualized, holistic care plans.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers to encourage active participation and foster a supportive care environment.
- Assist in preparing clients for discharge by coordinating resources, discussing potential challenges, and developing individualized post-discharge plans.
- Educate patients and families on community resources, coping strategies, and follow-up services that support long-term recovery and reduce the likelihood of readmission.
- Collaborate with community mental health services to facilitate seamless transitions and continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate, timely records of assessments, treatment plans, intervention notes, and progress reports in compliance with organizational and legal requirements.
- Follow all clinical, ethical, and regulatory guidelines, including those related to confidentiality, risk management, and mental health care best practices.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist – Acute Inpatient Adult Mental Health
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
- Full registration with CORU (Ireland’s Health and Social Care Professionals Council) as an Occupational Therapist.
- Experience in a mental health setting, with experience in acute inpatient care highly desirable.
- Previous experience with adult populations and complex mental health presentations is advantageous.
- Strong clinical knowledge of mental health conditions, recovery-oriented care, and therapeutic interventions relevant to acute mental health settings.
