Occupational Therapist
The Young Adult Mental Health Service (YAHMS) in Laois provides specialist, recovery-focused care to young people aged 18–25 who are experiencing significant mental health difficulties during a critical stage in their development. Our client is expanding their multidisciplinary team and are now recruiting enthusiastic and committed Staff Grade and Senior Grade Occupational Therapists to contribute to this innovative and dynamic service.
The Role:
These roles offer the opportunity to work in a youth-centred, recovery-oriented environment where occupational therapy plays a key role in supporting young people’s participation, independence, and social inclusion. The post holders will deliver evidence-based assessments and interventions across individual and group settings and actively contribute to service development.
Key Responsibilities of the Occupational Therapist:
- Assess occupational performance and develop collaborative, client-centred care plans
- Provide interventions aimed at enhancing functional abilities, life skills, vocational potential, and community engagement
- Work closely with service users, families, and the multidisciplinary team (psychiatry, nursing, psychology, social work)
- Support young people in their transitions between services, education, or employment
- Contribute to the development of recovery-focused programmes tailored to the needs of the 18–25 age group
- (Senior Grade) Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to staff and students; support service development and governance initiatives
Essential Criteria for the Occupational Therapist:
Staff Grade:
- A recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy
- Registration with CORU
- Experience or strong interest in mental health or youth services
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Senior Grade:
- As above, plus a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, with significant time spent in mental health
- Experience working with adolescents or young adults
- Demonstrated leadership, supervision, and service development capabilities
Desirable Experience (Both Grades):
- Group facilitation skills (e.g., wellness, life skills, coping strategies)
- Experience in vocational rehabilitation, sensory approaches, or DBT-informed practice
- Knowledge of recovery principles and trauma-informed care
- Full clean driving licence desirable
