Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist – Acute
My client a hospital in Meath are looking for a Staff Grade Occupational Therapist who will be supporting patients to achieve their maximum level of independence and quality of life. The Staff Grade Occupational Therapist will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate therapeutic interventions for a diverse patient population.
Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist – Acute
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients referred to the occupational therapy service.
- Develop and implement individualised treatment plans to address patients’ physical, cognitive, psychological, and social needs.
- Use evidence-based interventions to promote patients’ independence in daily living activities.
- Provide education and support to patients, families, and carers to facilitate engagement in therapy and achieve therapy goals.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in line with hospital and professional standards.
- Participate in case reviews and multidisciplinary meetings to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic, patient-centred care.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including health and safety and infection control guidelines.
- Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) to maintain and enhance knowledge and skills.
- Supervise and provide guidance to occupational therapy students and support staff as required.
- Participate in audits, research, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery
- Prepare reports and correspondence related to patient care.
- Ensure compliance with data protection and confidentiality guidelines.
- Contribute to the planning and development of occupational therapy services in the hospital.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist – Acute
- A recognised degree in Occupational Therapy
- CORU registration as an Occupational Therapist.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in occupational therapy.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a hospital setting.
- Experience in a specific clinical area relevant to the services provided at Our Lady’s Hospital (e.g., orthopaedics, neurology, or rehabilitation).
