Your role as a Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist:
Clinical/Professional Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized clinical care and support within the radiation therapy team for designated areas, ensuring safe and precise delivery of radiotherapy planning and treatment processes.
- Maintain professional standards according to CORU regulations, prioritizing patient and carer needs throughout radiotherapy services delivery.
- Monitor patient well-being during procedures to ensure safety and accuracy, while also providing clear communication and empathy to address concerns.
- Perform and/or independently verify complex dose calculations and planning data throughout treatment processes, adhering to radiation safety legislation.
- Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to facilitate information flow and mutual respect for professional roles and responsibilities.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of radiotherapy policies, procedures, and clinical protocols, participating in internal and external audits.
- Support the Radiation Therapy Service Manager in upholding the highest standards of care within the radiotherapy quality management system.
Education & Training:
- Participate in mandatory training and continuously update knowledge in radiotherapy, maintaining evidence-based clinical skills and competence.
- Provide leadership in professional development for Radiation Therapists at local/group levels and contribute to the development of other professions as necessary.
- Offer specialist clinical training and supervision for less experienced Radiation Therapists, including coaching and mentoring.
- Develop and oversee training programs for qualified staff, trainees, and students, providing supervision and assessment as required.
Risk Management, Health & Safety:
- Prioritize safety for self and others, reporting incidents promptly and implementing corrective measures.
- Ensure the safety and accuracy of radiotherapy equipment, promptly reporting faults and coordinating maintenance schedules.
- Comply with HIQA standards and associated HSE protocols for maintaining quality and safety.
- Support sustainable initiatives to create a more efficient and environmentally friendly health service.
Management:
- Assist the Radiation Therapy Service Manager in implementing service development initiatives and providing regular updates on clinical area operations.
- Contribute to operational policy development and resource utilization optimization, considering financial implications.
- Allocate responsibilities effectively, manage staff scheduling and workload pressures, and monitor attendance in accordance with HSE policies.
- Facilitate regular team briefings and encourage staff contributions, representing the department at meetings as necessary.
- Keep abreast of organizational and healthcare service developments, ensuring accurate record-keeping and adherence to privacy regulations.
- Act as deputy for the Radiation Therapy Service Manager when required.
Contract: Permanent, Full-time 1WTE
Salary: €60,437 – €71,387
