Assistant Director of Nursing
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to lead and develop a specialist Neuro Rehabilitation / Acquired Brain Injury service. The successful candidate will have full operational and clinical responsibility for a 14-bed specialist unit, including bed management, staffing, and clinical governance, with a key role in future service expansion to a new 40-bed unit.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated clinical leader to help shape and grow a developing neurorehabilitation service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical and operational leadership for the Neuro Rehabilitation / ABI unit
- Maintain responsibility for bed management, admissions, and patient flow
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, person-centred neurorehabilitation care
- Lead and support multidisciplinary team collaboration
- Oversee clinical governance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
- Support staff development, supervision, and training
- Contribute to strategic development and expansion of the service, including planning for the future 40-bed unit
- Promote best practice in complex neurological and rehabilitation care
Candidate Requirements
- Registered Nurse with active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or eligibility for registration
- Previous management or senior clinical leadership experience
- Clinical experience in Acquired Brain Injury, Neuro Rehabilitation, or complex care
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
- Experience managing complex patient needs and multidisciplinary teams
Desirable
- Brain Injury Specialist qualification or equivalent postgraduate qualification in neurological / rehabilitation care
- Experience in service development or unit expansion
