Occupational Therapist – Paediatrics
The Occupational Therapist (Paediatrics) will provide assessment, intervention, and support services to children and young people presenting with developmental, sensory, physical, emotional, behavioural, and functional difficulties within a primary care setting. The role focuses on enabling children to participate as fully as possible in everyday activities including self-care, play, school participation, social interaction, and family life.
I can consider either a Staff or a Senior grade for this role based in South Dublin
Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist – Paediatrics
- Assess children referred to the service using standardised and non-standardised assessment tools.
- Identify strengths, needs, and functional goals in partnership with children, families, and relevant professionals.
- Develop and implement individualised intervention plans based on clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
- Deliver occupational therapy interventions in clinic, home, school, preschool, and community settings as appropriate.
- Provide recommendations for environmental adaptations, equipment, and assistive technology where appropriate.
- Monitor and evaluate intervention outcomes and adjust plans accordingly.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards.
- Manage a clinical caseload effectively and prioritise referrals according to service criteria.
Family and Caregiver Support
- Work in partnership with parents, caregivers, and families using a family-centred approach.
- Provide education, coaching, and practical strategies to support children’s participation in daily routines.
- Facilitate parent training sessions, workshops, or group programmes where required.
- Contribute to service planning, development, and evaluation initiatives.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement, and outcome measurement activities.
- Support the development of clinical pathways and evidence-based practice guidelines.
- Assist in the development of educational resources and programmes.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist – Paediatrics
- Degree or MSc in Occupational Therapy recognised by the relevant professional regulatory body.
- Current registration with CORU
- Experience working with children and families in paediatric services.
- Experience completing paediatric occupational therapy assessments and interventions.
- Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
