Senior Occupational Therapist – CAMHS
The Senior Occupational Therapist will provide a high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy service to young people admitted to the Linn Dara inpatient Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). The post holder will play a key role in multidisciplinary assessment, intervention, and discharge planning, supporting young people with complex mental health needs to achieve optimal occupational functioning and recovery. This role is based in Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot.
Key Responsibilities of Senior Occupational Therapist – CAMHS
- Deliver specialist occupational therapy assessments and interventions to adolescents presenting with acute and complex mental health difficulties.
- Develop and implement individualised, recovery-oriented care plans in collaboration with young people, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Facilitate therapeutic groups focusing on areas such as emotional regulation, life skills, sensory modulation, and social participation.
- Provide risk assessment and management within the inpatient setting.
- Contribute to discharge planning and continuity of care with community CAMHS teams and external agencies.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards.
- Support the development and delivery of occupational therapy services within the unit.
- Contribute to service planning, policy development, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Supervise and support junior staff, students, and therapy assistants as required.
- Act as a resource for occupational therapy practice within CAMHS.
- Provide education and training to staff, families, and external stakeholders on occupational therapy approaches in mental health.
- Engage in continuous professional development and maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge.
- Participate in audit, research, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
Requirements of Senior Occupational Therapist – CAMHS
- Qualification in Occupational Therapy recognised by CORU.
- Registration with CORU (or eligible for registration).
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, including experience in mental health and/or CAMHS.
- Demonstrated experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills.
Desirable
- Experience in inpatient or acute mental health settings.
- Training in therapeutic approaches relevant to CAMHS (e.g. DBT-informed skills, sensory integration, CBT-informed interventions).
- Experience in supervision and/or service development.
