Job Overview
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNM2) plays a key leadership role within the nursing home, supporting the Person in Charge (PIC) in the management of the home and the delivery of high-quality resident care.
In addition to staff nurse responsibilities, the CNM2 supports daily operations, supervises staff, and ensures care is delivered in line with Sonas standards, statutory regulations, and HIQA National Quality Standards. The role also promotes respectful, person-centred relationships with residents and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- In the absence of the PIC or Assistant Person in Charge (APIC), assume the duties of the PIC in accordance with the Health Act 2007 and HIQA standards.
- Support the PIC/APIC in maintaining high standards of resident care and staff supervision.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and clinical supervision to nursing and care staff.
- Participate in clinical audits, governance meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Oversee induction, training, and development of new staff.
- Support workforce planning, staff allocation, and recruitment processes.
- Assist with performance management, probation reviews, and training needs analysis.
- Ensure resident assessments and care plans remain up to date and person-centred.
- Maintain accurate medication management records (Kardex/EMAR) in collaboration with GPs.
- Support infection prevention and control (IPC) and outbreak management.
- Promote person-centred care, safeguarding, and resident wellbeing at all times.
- Be available for day, night, and weekend shifts as required.
Education & Qualifications
- Third Level Degree in Nursing.
- Registered with The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) with an active PIN.
- Current certification in:
- Infection Control
- Manual Handling & Resident Moving and Handling
- Medication Management
- CPR
- Dementia Care
- Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults
(Training can be provided if required.) - Post-registration qualification in Healthcare Management, Gerontology, or Dementia Care is desirable.
- Willingness to undertake a Level 6 Leadership & Management programme.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ post-registration nursing experience.
- Proven clinical competence and commitment to high-quality care for older adults.
- Experience supporting and supervising nursing teams.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with residents, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).
- Strong organisational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities
