Occupational Therapist
The Occupational Therapist will provide high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy services to children and young people (0–18 years) with complex needs within a Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT) aligned with the national Progressing Disability Services (PDS) model.
The post holder will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to support children and families to achieve meaningful participation in daily activities across home, school, and community settings. The OT will also provide clinical leadership, supervision, and service development support within the team. This role is based in Letterkenny and I will consider Staff or Senior Grade
Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist
- Deliver comprehensive occupational therapy assessments for children with complex developmental needs (including physical, sensory, intellectual, and neurodevelopmental disabilities).
- Develop and implement individualised, family-centred intervention plans in line with best practice and PDS principles.
- Provide intervention across areas including:Complete specialist assessments (e.g., sensory integration, functional capacity, assistive technology) as appropriate.
- Functional skills and independence
- Fine and gross motor development
- Sensory processing and regulation
- Play and social participation
- Seating, positioning, and postural management
- Equipment prescription and environmental adaptation
- Prepare high-quality reports to inform education, funding, and clinical decision-making.
- Support transitions (e.g., early years to school, primary to post-primary).
- Work collaboratively within the CDNT (including Speech & Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, and other disciplines).
- Participate in team-based assessment, goal setting, and intervention planning.
- Facilitate parent training, workshops, and group programmes.
- Liaise effectively with schools, early years settings, respite services, and community agencies.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist
- BSc (Hons) or MSc in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent qualification recognised by CORU).
- Registration with CORU as an Occupational Therapist.
- Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification clinical experience, including relevant paediatric experience if Senior, if Staff some paeds experience is necessary
- Demonstrated experience working with children with complex needs and within interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience supervising staff or students.
- Full clean driving licence and access to transport.
