Speech and Language Therapist – Adult
The Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) will provide a high-quality, evidence-based speech and language therapy service to adults attending primary care services in South West Dublin. The role focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and management of adult communication and swallowing disorders within a multidisciplinary primary care setting.
Responsibilities of Speech and Language Therapist – Adult
- Assess, diagnose, and manage adult speech, language, communication, voice, and swallowing difficulties within a primary care framework
- Provide individual and group-based interventions, using evidence-based approaches
- Develop and implement person-centred care plans in collaboration with service users and families
- Manage a caseload in line with professional standards, service priorities, and waiting list targets
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical records in accordance with HSE and CORU standards
- Contribute to early intervention, prevention, and health promotion initiatives
Multidisciplinary & Interagency Working
- Work as part of a Primary Care Multidisciplinary Team (including GPs, OTs, PHNs, Dietitians, Psychologists, Social Workers, etc.)
- Liaise with acute hospitals, community services, disability services, mental health services, and voluntary agencies
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and care planning forums
Service Development & Quality Improvement
- Contribute to service planning, audit, and evaluation activities
- Participate in the development and review of clinical pathways and policies
- Support the implementation of national and local strategies relevant to adult primary care
- Maintain CORU registration and adhere to the Speech & Language Therapists Registration Board Code of Professional Conduct
- Engage in continuous professional development (CPD)
- Participate in clinical supervision and reflective practice
- Support students, therapy assistants, or junior staff as appropriate
Requirements of Speech and Language Therapist – Adult
- Recognised qualification in Speech & Language Therapy eligible for CORU registration
- Registration with CORU (or eligibility to register)
- Experience working with adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties
- Knowledge of primary care and community-based service delivery models
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working in adult primary care or community settings
- Experience with conditions such as neurological disorders, stroke, voice disorders, dysphagia, and functional communication difficulties
- Experience in group therapy, health promotion, or service development
- Familiarity with HSE documentation systems and clinical governance structures
