We are seeking an empathetic and skilled Occupational Therapist to join our Community Mental Health team in Longford. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver high-quality, client-centered occupational therapy services for individuals experiencing a range of mental health challenges. This role focuses on promoting recovery, enhancing daily functioning, and supporting clients’ mental and physical well-being. You will provide both one-on-one and group-based interventions to empower individuals to live meaningful, independent lives. This role is open to Staff or Senior candidates
Key Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist – Community Mental Health
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ mental, emotional, and social abilities, with a focus on enhancing their functional independence and well-being.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on clients’ goals, strengths, and needs, utilizing evidence-based mental health strategies.
- Regularly review and adapt treatment plans in collaboration with clients, their families, and other team members to ensure person-centered care.
- Deliver targeted occupational therapy interventions to address clients’ daily living skills, vocational needs, community participation, and social engagement.
- Facilitate therapeutic group activities focused on mental health recovery, coping strategies, and social skills.
- Educate clients and families on adaptive techniques, lifestyle changes, and available resources that promote resilience and functional independence.
- Foster a recovery-oriented approach by empowering clients to set and work toward personal goals, develop self-advocacy skills, and build resilience.
- Assist clients in navigating social, vocational, and educational opportunities to promote community integration and personal growth.
- Provide guidance on stress management, time management, and wellness planning to support clients’ long-term stability and recovery.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, nurses, and other allied health professionals.
- Participate in case conferences, client reviews, and team meetings to ensure holistic and coordinated care.
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and caregivers to promote shared understanding and active engagement in treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records of assessments, interventions, and progress notes in line with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Adhere to best practice guidelines, professional standards, and ethical considerations in mental health occupational therapy.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist – Community Mental Health
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
- Full registration with CORU (Ireland’s Health and Social Care Professionals Council) as an Occupational Therapist.
- Experience in a mental health setting, ideally within community mental health or a related field.
- Experience with diverse client populations and a range of mental health challenges is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mental health recovery principles, therapeutic techniques, and occupational therapy interventions.
