As a CAMHS Occupational Therapist in Louth, you will work with children, adolescents, and their families to support their mental health and well-being. Your role involves conducting assessments, creating therapeutic programs, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver person-centered care. Your goal is to empower young clients to build skills that improve their daily functioning, confidence, and independence.
Key Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist – CAMHS
- Conduct detailed assessments of clients’ mental, emotional, and physical needs.
- Use evidence-based tools to assess areas such as emotional regulation, sensory processing, social skills, and self-care.
- Collaborate with families, teachers, and other health professionals to gain a holistic view of each child’s environment and needs.
- Develop tailored interventions and therapeutic activities that target each young person’s unique needs and goals.
- Facilitate individual or group therapy sessions focusing on life skills, self-care, and coping mechanisms.
- Use approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Sensory Integration, or play-based therapy where appropriate.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary CAMHS team, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and nurses.
- Liaise with schools, social services, and community organizations to ensure comprehensive support.
- Advocate for the young person’s needs within the family, educational, and community settings.
- Provide guidance to parents and caregivers on supporting their child’s development and mental health.
- Offer training and resources to empower families in reinforcing therapeutic goals outside of sessions.
- Maintain up-to-date case notes, treatment plans, and progress reports.
- Ensure adherence to legal, ethical, and CAMHS-specific policies regarding confidentiality and data protection.
Essential Qualifications and Experience of Occupational Therapist – CAMHS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Current registration with CORU or in process
- Prior experience working in mental health settings, preferably with children and adolescents.
- Knowledge of CAMHS frameworks and familiarity with common mental health conditions affecting young people, including anxiety, depression, autism, and ADHD.
