Senior Speech and Language Therapist
The Senior Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing assessment, intervention, and support to children and young people with complex developmental needs and disabilities, and their families, within the Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT) framework. The therapist will lead on planning and delivering speech and language therapy services to improve the communication, feeding, and swallowing skills of children referred to the CDNT in Sligo.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments of speech, language, communication, and feeding/swallowing disorders in children with a range of developmental disabilities.
- Formulate and implement individualized care plans based on diagnostic outcomes and family-centered goals.
- Deliver evidence-based speech and language therapy interventions, including individual, group, and teletherapy sessions.
- Monitor and review client progress, adjusting therapeutic approaches as needed.
- Provide specialist therapy in areas such as AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) and dysphagia management, as appropriate.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary team members including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and Nurses to ensure a holistic approach to care.
- Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to case discussions and joint treatment planning.
- Work in partnership with families, providing education, training, and support to parents and caregivers to implement therapy strategies at home.
- Empower families to support their child’s communication and feeding development through coaching and workshops.
- Lead and contribute to the development of speech and language therapy services within the CDNT.
- Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to junior Speech and Language Therapists, Therapy Assistants, and SLT students on placement.
- Support staff in managing caseloads, clinical decision-making, and delivering effective intervention.
- Keep up-to-date with the latest research, best practices, and innovations in speech and language therapy.
- Participate in relevant CPD activities, workshops, and conferences to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
- Training for Staff & External Stakeholders:
- Deliver training to other healthcare professionals, educational staff, and community partners on areas relevant to speech and language therapy and children’s disability services
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- A recognised professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Full registration with CORU, the Health and Social Care Professionals Council.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of post-qualification experience in paediatric speech and language therapy.
- Previous experience working with children with complex needs and disabilities in a community, clinical, or school setting.
- Experience in AAC and/or feeding and swallowing disorders is an advantage.
- A full, clean driving licence and access to transport, as travel may be required between different locations within the Sligo area.
