Senior Physiotherapist – Urology
The Senior Physiotherapist – Urology will provide specialized assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to patients with urological conditions in a primary care setting. They will support patients in East Galway and North Roscommon by delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care aimed at optimizing pelvic health, bladder and bowel function, and associated quality of life. The role involves direct patient care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and contributions to service development within primary care.
Key Responsibilities of Senior Physiotherapist – Urology
- Assess, diagnose, and develop individualized treatment plans for patients with a range of urological conditions, including incontinence, pelvic floor dysfunction, and post-operative care.
- Utilize specialized techniques in pelvic health physiotherapy, including manual therapy, biofeedback, therapeutic exercise, and other modalities.
- Educate patients and families on self-management strategies, preventative measures, and lifestyle modifications.
- Work closely with general practitioners, urologists, continence nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Act as a key point of contact for urological physiotherapy, offering advice and support to colleagues and patients.
- Attend multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and contribute to case discussions, discharge planning, and coordinated care pathways.
- Identify and implement service improvements to optimize urology physiotherapy care within primary care.
- Develop educational materials, workshops, and outreach programs focused on urological health for patients, families, and community members.
- Monitor and audit service effectiveness and outcomes, ensuring compliance with clinical governance and best practice standards.
- Mentor and support junior physiotherapists and students in their clinical and professional development.
- Participate in continuous professional development (CPD) relevant to urology and primary care.
- Stay current with emerging research and best practices in urological physiotherapy and disseminate knowledge within the team.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Physiotherapy from a recognized institution, with CORU registration.
- Minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience, with at least 2 years in urology, pelvic health, or a related specialty.
- Proven ability to work independently in assessing and managing a caseload.
- Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork within primary care or community health settings.
