We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Physiotherapist to join our Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT) based in Leitrim. As part of the CDNT, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in assessing, treating, and managing children and young people with physical disabilities, developmental delays, and neurodevelopmental conditions. The Physiotherapist will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, and social workers, to deliver family-centred care aimed at improving the mobility, independence, and overall quality of life of children.
Key Responsibilities of a Physiotherapist
- Conduct comprehensive physical assessments and evaluations for children with a wide range of disabilities and developmental conditions.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, in collaboration with families and the multidisciplinary team, to address the specific needs of the child.
- Utilize evidence-based interventions to promote physical function, mobility, and participation in daily activities.
- Provide therapeutic interventions in clinical, home, school, or community settings to support the child’s physical development.
- Offer guidance and education to parents, carers, and school staff regarding the child’s therapy program, equipment needs, and strategies to support physical development.
- Ensure timely reviews and adjustments to treatment plans in response to changes in the child’s condition or progress.
- Work closely with other members of the CDNT, including occupational therapists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, and social workers, to deliver holistic care.
- Participate in regular case conferences and interdisciplinary meetings to share insights and contribute to the development of integrated care plans.
- Assess the need for and prescribe assistive devices such as orthotics, wheelchairs, and other mobility aids.
- Provide training and education to families and caregivers on the appropriate use and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including assessments, treatment plans, progress reports, and communication with other professionals.
- Prepare reports and documentation for statutory reviews, funding applications, and referrals to other services as required.
- Stay current with best practices, new developments, and emerging evidence in paediatric physiotherapy.
- Participate in continuous professional development (CPD) activities, including attending relevant training, workshops, and seminars.
Key Requirements of Staff Grade Physiotherapist
- BSc/MSc in Physiotherapy (or equivalent qualification recognized by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists).
- Registration with CORU (Health and Social Care Professionals Council).
- Experience working in paediatrics and/or with children with disabilities (preferably in a clinical, community, or educational setting).
- Previous experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team is desirable.
- Knowledge of developmental disorders, such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and autism spectrum disorder, is an advantage.
