Staff Grade Physiotherapist – Primary Care
The Staff Grade Physiotherapist will work within the Limerick Primary Care team, providing high-quality physiotherapy services to individuals across the lifespan. This role will involve the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of a wide range of musculoskeletal, neurological, and respiratory conditions. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, providing person-centred care and promoting the health and wellbeing of patients in the Limerick region.
Key Responsibilities of Physiotherapist
- Carry out comprehensive assessments of clients referred to the physiotherapy service, identifying musculoskeletal, neurological, or cardiorespiratory impairments.
- Use clinical reasoning skills to formulate individualized treatment plans based on the assessment findings.
- Deliver evidence-based physiotherapy interventions to restore movement, function, and reduce pain or disability.
- Implement rehabilitation programs, including exercises, manual therapy, education, and electrotherapy as needed.
- Educate patients on self-management strategies and preventative measures to promote long-term health.
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals within the primary care team, including Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Public Health Nurses, GPs, and Social Workers.
- Participate in case reviews, team meetings, and joint planning with other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
- Engage in health promotion activities to encourage physical activity and healthier lifestyles within the community.
- Provide education on injury prevention, postural care, and movement strategies for different age groups and conditions.
- Participate in regular clinical supervision with senior physiotherapists to ensure continuous professional development.
- Be open to receiving guidance and feedback on clinical practice to improve the quality of care provided.
- Assist in the supervision and mentoring of Physiotherapy Assistants and student physiotherapists during clinical placements.
- Support the education and development of staff and students by sharing knowledge and clinical expertise.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient assessments, treatments, and progress in line with professional and organisational standards.
- Ensure that all clinical documentation is completed in a timely manner and adheres to GDPR regulations.
- Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of the physiotherapy service by participating in audits, research, and service reviews.
- Provide feedback to the Senior Physiotherapist or Team Lead on areas for service development and quality improvement.
Essential Qualifications & Experience of a Staff Grade Physiotherapist
- A recognised qualification in Physiotherapy from an accredited institution.
- Registration with CORU (Health and Social Care Professionals Council) as a Physiotherapist.
- A minimum of 1-2 years of post-qualification experience (including student placements) in a range of clinical settings, preferably in primary care or community services.
- Must be CORU registered
- Experience in assessing and managing musculoskeletal, neurological, and respiratory conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Organisational skills, with the capacity to manage a varied caseload and work independently.
- Experience working in a primary care or community healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of local healthcare structures and the primary care model.
- A full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle, as the role may require travel to various locations within Limerick for home visits or community clinics.
