About the Role:
As a Staff Grade Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in supporting patients during their hospital stay by facilitating their recovery, promoting independence, and aiding their transition back to daily life. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver timely assessments, interventions, and discharge planning to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive assessments of patients with physical, cognitive, and psychosocial challenges in an acute hospital setting.
- Develop and implement individualised treatment plans tailored to each patient’s rehabilitation needs and recovery goals.
- Deliver a range of therapeutic interventions, including functional rehabilitation, mobility support, and adaptive techniques.
- Engage in effective discharge planning, ensuring safe transitions to home or community services, and liaising with external support agencies when needed.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams (nursing, physiotherapy, medical staff, and social work) to deliver coordinated and integrated care.
- Educate and support patients and their families on self-management strategies, assistive devices, and home modifications to promote safety and independence.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional and legal standards.
- Contribute to service development by participating in quality improvement projects and implementing best practices in occupational therapy.
- Engage in professional development through continuous learning and reflective practice.
Requirements:
- Degree/Master’s in Occupational Therapy from a recognised institution.
- CORU registration as an Occupational Therapist.
- Previous experience in acute care, hospital-based services, or rehabilitation is desirable but not essential.
- Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Proven ability to manage a varied caseload and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive and flexible approach to work with a strong commitment to patient-centered care.
