Social Worker – Adult safeguarding
The Social Worker will provide a comprehensive social work service in adult safeguarding, supporting the implementation of the HSE’s Safeguarding Policy for vulnerable adults, particularly older people and people with disabilities, who may be at risk of abuse or neglect. This role forms part of the Safeguarding and Protection Team (SPT) in covering CH07 and can be based in Naas or Crumlin, working within a multidisciplinary and interagency framework.
Responsibilities
- Lead or support safeguarding assessments and interventions using a person-centred, trauma-informed, and rights-based approach.
- Coordinate multi-agency case conferences and work collaboratively with health professionals, disability services, residential settings, family members, and external agencies (e.g. Gardaí, HIQA, legal services).
- Provide advice and support to frontline staff and services in identifying and managing safeguarding risks.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with HSE and legal standards (including GDPR and Freedom of Information).
- Participate in service planning, quality improvement initiatives, audits, and the collection of safeguarding data for national reporting.
- Contribute to training and awareness-raising across services and community groups regarding adult safeguarding and protection.
- Attend team meetings, supervision, and CPD relevant to adult safeguarding and social work practice.
Requirements for Social Worker – Adult safeguarding:
- Registration with the Social Workers Registration Board at CORU.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of safeguarding principles, adult protection policy, and legal frameworks (e.g. Assisted Decision-Making Act, HIQA standards, Mental Health Act).
- Demonstrated experience or strong interest in adult services, safeguarding, disability, or mental health.
- Experience in safeguarding investigations, family support, capacity assessments, or working with people with complex needs would be desirable
- Knowledge of interagency working and conflict resolution.
- Understanding of HSE policies, safeguarding referral processes, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
