Senior Speech & Language Therapist – Adults
The Senior Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) will provide high-quality, evidence-based assessment and intervention services to adults presenting with communication and/or swallowing disorders. The post-holder will manage a defined adult caseload within community, primary care, rehabilitation, and/or residential settings across South Dublin.
The Senior SLT will demonstrate clinical leadership, supervise junior staff and students, and contribute to service development in line with best practice standards and national policy. This role is based in Ballyfermot.
Responsibilities of Senior Speech & Language Therapist – Adults
- Deliver specialist assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for adults with:Develop and implement individualised treatment plans in collaboration with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Acquired communication disorders (e.g., aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia)
- Progressive neurological conditions (e.g., Parkinson’s disease, MND, MS)
- Voice disorders
- Cognitive-communication disorders
- Dysphagia (including complex swallowing assessments)
- Provide dysphagia management plans in line with national clinical guidelines.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date clinical records in accordance with GDPR and HSE policies.
- Participate in case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Act as a clinical specialist resource within adult services.
- Supervise and support Basic Grade SLTs, therapy assistants, and students.
- Contribute to service planning, quality improvement, and audit activities.
- Support implementation of evidence-based practice and clinical governance standards.
- Adhere to professional standards set by IASLT.
- Engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Participate in clinical supervision structures.
Requirements for Senior Speech & Language Therapist – Adults
- Recognised qualification in Speech & Language Therapy approved for CORU registration.
- Current registration (or eligibility for registration) with CORU.
- Minimum 3 years post-qualification clinical experience (including adult caseload).
- Demonstrated experience managing adults with complex communication and swallowing disorders.
