Working Hours: Full Time Monday – Friday
Contract: 6 months
Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing expert occupational therapy services to children with complex needs, supporting them and their families to achieve their full potential in daily life activities. This role involves leadership, advanced clinical practice, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Assessment and Intervention:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify the occupational therapy needs of children with disabilities.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized intervention plans, using evidence-based practices.
- Provide advanced therapeutic interventions to enhance children’s functional abilities in areas such as self-care, play, and education.
- Use specialized equipment and technology to support children’s needs and improve their participation in daily activities.
- Leadership and Supervision:
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior occupational therapists, therapy assistants, and students.
- Lead and contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and best practices within the CDNT.
- Take an active role in team meetings, case conferences, and multidisciplinary discussions to ensure integrated service delivery.
- Family and Caregiver Support:
- Engage with families and caregivers to educate and empower them in supporting their child’s development and independence.
- Facilitate parent and caregiver training sessions on various therapeutic strategies and techniques.
- Act as a key point of contact for families, ensuring effective communication and coordination of care.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with other members of the CDNT, including speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and social workers.
- Liaise with external agencies, schools, and community services to ensure a cohesive approach to care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of clinical assessments, interventions, and outcomes in line with professional and organizational standards.
- Professional Development:
- Stay up to date with the latest research, trends, and advancements in paediatric occupational therapy and disability services.
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities, including training, workshops, and conferences.
- Contribute to service development initiatives and quality improvement projects within the CDNT.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in occupational therapy from an accredited institution.
- Current registration with CORU
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in paediatric occupational therapy, with a focus on children with disabilities.
- Proven experience in leading clinical teams and providing supervision to junior staff.
- Strong knowledge of child development, sensory integration, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Commitment to providing family-centred care and supporting inclusive practices.
Desirable Skills:
- Postgraduate qualifications or specialized training in paediatric occupational therapy.
- Experience in working within community or school-based settings.
- Familiarity with clinical governance and quality improvement processes.
