Senior Occupational Therapist
Job Overview: The Senior Occupational Therapist will deliver expert physical, sensory, and cognitive interventions to meet residents’ Occupational Therapy needs at the Alzheimer’s Care Centre (ACC). The role involves collaboration with health and social care professionals and supervision of junior occupational therapists.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Professional/Clinical:
- Represent and promote Occupational Therapy within ACC.
- Apply clinical reasoning and expertise in elderly and dementia care.
- Respect residents’ and staff’s values and include families in decisions.
- Support and delegate to Occupational Therapy staff.
- Uphold professional standards and codes of conduct.
- Promote high standards of practice and stay updated on developments in the field.
- Balance clinical demands with research, administration, service development, teaching, CPD, and staff supervision.
Managing a Caseload:
- Utilize advanced clinical reasoning for assessments and interventions.
- Prioritize and plan resident care pathways and referrals.
- Collaborate with MDT colleagues for holistic patient care.
- Optimize resource use to meet service demands.
Quality Service Management:
- Apply advanced clinical knowledge in dementia care.
- Conduct assessments and interventions based on evidence-based practice.
- Train staff on best practice standards.
- Monitor and report on clinical standards.
- Develop and implement strategic service plans and quality initiatives.
- Oversee resource utilization for effective service delivery.
Communication:
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and colleagues.
- Maintain open communication within the service.
- Promote cross-discipline collaboration and shared discharge planning.
- Handle conflicts constructively and build community links.
- Present lectures, evaluations, audits, and research findings.
Leadership and Service Development:
- Manage daily operations of clinical specialty areas within ACC.
- Act as an expert resource and promote Occupational Therapy at national and international levels.
- Lead clinical decision-making and develop guidelines for safe practice.
- Drive new initiatives and contribute to strategic planning.
- Assist in staff recruitment and maintain stock control.
- Lead and publish research projects relevant to ACC.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent WFOT-recognized qualification.
- CORU registration and AOTI membership.
- Minimum of four years post-qualification experience.
- Experience at a Senior Occupational Therapist level is desirable.
- Excellent skills in posture and seating assessment.
- Experience in elderly care.
Job Details:
- Full-time, Permanent
- Salary: From €58,000 per year
- Benefits: Bike to work scheme, Company pension, On-site parking
- Schedule: 8-12 hour shifts, Monday to Friday
- Location: North Dublin, County Dublin (must reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work)
