Occupational Therapist
Location: Wexford
Contract: 6 months initially with a view to extend
Schedule: 35 hours p/week, Monday – Friday
Medforce are delighted to have partnered with a Primary Care Centre based in Wexford to recruit a Staff grade or Senior Occupational Therapist to work in a paediatric setting.
The Occupational Therapist will join a team of experienced Occupational Therapists and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering high-standard occupational therapy services to a paediatric population covering two areas of Wexford. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing therapy programs tailored to the needs of children with a wide range of physical, cognitive, and mental health conditions.
This role requires a dynamic professional who is skilled in working independently and as part of a team, with a focus on promoting independence, enhancing quality of life, and supporting children through a family-centred approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive assessments of children’s physical, cognitive, and emotional needs to develop accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans.
- Intervention Planning: Design and implement individualized intervention programs that address pchildren’s specific needs, aiming to enhance their ability to perform daily activities and improve their quality of life.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including doctors, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and social workers, to provide coordinated and holistic care to children
- Patient Education: Provide education and support to children and their families, helping them understand their conditions and teaching strategies to manage and overcome challenges.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including assessment findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in accordance with professional and legal standards.
- Supervision and Mentorship: Provide guidance, supervision, and mentorship to junior occupational therapists, students, and support staff, fostering a learning environment that encourages professional development (relevant only to senior post)
- Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, service development projects, and research activities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the occupational therapy service.
- Advocacy: Advocate for childrens’ needs within the healthcare system and support their access to necessary services and resources.
Essential Requirements:
- Education: A recognized degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration: Full registration with CORU (Health and Social Care Professionals Council) as an Occupational Therapist.
- Experience: Primary care experience desired. For Senior post minimum of 3 years experience is required.
- Driving License: A full, clean driving license and access to a vehicle, as the role may require home visits and travel within the community.
Skills:
- Strong clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning across a range of conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in documentation and the use of electronic health records.
Desirable Attributes:
- Specialist Skills: Experience in specific areas such as paediatrics or primary care.
