Family Support Practitioner for Children in care
Medforce is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Support Practitioner to join our Children in Care team based in Dundalk, Co. Louth. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children in care and their families.
The Family Support Practitioner will be responsible for delivering high-quality, strengths-based support to children and families, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure the welfare and safety of children in care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct family support services to children in care and their families.
- Develop and implement care plans that address the needs of children in care, with a focus on building and maintaining positive family relationships.
- Collaborate with social workers, family support workers, and other professionals to create comprehensive support plans for children and families.
- Support children in care in overcoming emotional, behavioral, and social challenges.
- Offer practical advice and assistance to families to strengthen their capacity to care for their children.
- Monitor and review the progress of families, ensuring that interventions are effective and tailored to individual needs.
- Advocate for children and families and ensure that their voices are heard in the care planning process.
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Skills:
- A relevant qualification in social care, social work, psychology, or a related field.
- Experience working with children in care or vulnerable children and families is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of child protection and safeguarding practices.
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- A commitment to upholding Tusla’s values and working within the framework of child welfare and protection legislation.
- Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Level 6 (or higher) major academic award in the areas of health promotion, social care, childcare, education, family support, education etc. or
- An equivalent nationally recognised qualification in the areas of health promotion, social care, childcare, education, family support, education etc. and
- The requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of office.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a family support role or with children in care.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and frameworks, including Children First Guidelines.

This is a full time, 39 hour week spread across Monday – Friday with excellent benefits including free onsite parking, incremental pay-scale, generous annual leave entitlement and CPD opportunties.
