Basic or Senior Speech and Language Therapist
Reports to: Clinical Director
Work Location: Dublin 16, Ireland
Mode of Working: On-site
Contract: Permanent, full-time. Part-time hours can be discussed
Working Hours: 37 hours weekly (for full-time)
Responsibilities:
- Conducting assessments to identify speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
- Designing and implementing individualized therapy plans based on assessment results.
- Providing therapy sessions to clients, both one-on-one and in group settings, using evidence-based techniques.
- Evaluating, monitoring, and documenting client progress, adjusting therapy plans as needed.
- Collaborating with families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure consistent and holistic care.
- Participating in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
- Be able to make clinical decisions following assessment of complex cases.
- Arrange and carry out assessment and treatment/intervention programmes in line with local policy/guidelines.
- Be able to work collaboratively with the MDT and service users in supporting the management of decision-making and Capacity Assessments for service users.
- Communicate results of assessments and recommendations to the service user and relevant others as appropriate.
- Document all assessments, diagnoses, treatment/intervention plans, clinical notes, relevant contacts, and summaries following department and professional standards.
- Provide clinical leadership in the day-to-day running of the service by supporting and supervising staff, prioritizing and allocating work, and promoting positive staff morale.
- Manage, participate, and play a key role in the practice education of student therapists and promote and engage in the teaching/training/support/supervision of others as appropriate.
- Engage in planning and performance reviews, as required with the Clinical Director.
- Contribute to service developments by monitoring and evaluating emerging needs and trends in consultation with team members.
- Develop the role of the Senior Speech and Language Therapist and the service e.g. through planning, audit, production of standards, continuing education, quality improvement initiatives and research.
- Be responsible for the coordination and delivery of service in designated area(s).
- Ensure good working practice and adherence to standards of best practice.
- Participate in the control and ordering of clinical equipment.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
- Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Registered with CORU as a Speech and Language Therapist in Ireland.
- Dysphagia qualification to an accredited level by IASLT or an equivalent level.
- Minimum of 2 years full-time post-qualification clinical experience working with adults.
- At least 1 year experience working with adults with acquired disorders.
- Clinical proficiency in the assessment and treatment of adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based therapeutic techniques and interventions relevant to the role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to demonstrate strong leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to therapy.
Desirable:
- Experience working within a Neuro-disability setting or a Mental Health setting with adults.
